As we work to build a strong E-12 public education system, let’s also plan for our future by addressing higher education and the shortage of skilled workers.
- I support two years of free higher education, but I don’t think it’s enough. We must talk about how we can help our students make a successful financial transition should they choose to complete a four-year program. As part of that, I support free tuition for those whose families make $150,000 or less a year.
- We must offer expanded refinancing options and loan forgiveness programs, and create an office of the ombudsperson for student debt to help those that have already graduated. It is a sin that the federal government is making money off of student loans.
- During high school, let’s invest in technical programs and apprenticeships to revitalize our workforce and provide students with ample opportunities to build the life of their choosing upon graduation.
