SAINT PAUL, MN – Today, Rep. Erin Murphy (DFL-64A), former MN House Majority Leader and DFL candidate for governor, received the endorsement from NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. This week, Murphy was also endorsed by the Minnesota DFL Latino Caucus and she has previously been endorsed by Women Winning, the Minnesota Nurses Association, the DFL Disability Caucus, and more than 60 local elected officials from across the state.
“As a nurse, mother and state legislator I have always fought to protect reproductive freedom and choice for all Minnesotans and I’m honored to receive the NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota endorsement,” said Murphy. “In the wake of candidates like Tim Pawlenty entering the race, who has a record of attacking abortion access and reproductive health care, the fight to protect reproductive freedom is more important than ever. I’m proud to stand with NARAL to preserve and expand access to reproductive health care for all, including abortion and contraception, which is critical for economic security and independence. I look forward to our work together to win this election.”
Murphy has been a champion for reproductive health care at the State Capitol for more than a decade. She is the author of the Protect Access to Contraception (PAC) Act, requiring Minnesota health plans to cover contraception without charging a co-pay.
“For over a decade in the Minnesota legislature, Rep. Murphy has been a champion for reproductive rights,” said Andrea Ledger, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. “In the face of unrelenting attacks on abortion rights by an anti-choice majority in the legislature, we need a governor who will not only protect our rights but work to expand access to reproductive health care.”
